Detailed Description

Elegant Chinese funerary figurine representing a Tang court lady (仕女俑) from the 8th century, modeled in polychrome terracotta with thermoluminescence authentication.

Analysis & expertise

Detailed observation revealing a gray-reddish paste covered with white slip and original polychromy. Authenticity confirmed by QED thermoluminescence test (ref. QED1211/FC-0204).

Delicate facial features with pigment remains: pink on cheeks and lips, black for the eyes. High hairstyle with frontal volumes ending in a lateral volute characteristic of the second half of the 8th century.

Recollected posture, crossed hands hidden under long sleeves with incised folds. Traces of residual green pigments on the sleeves, dark band marking the waist.

Flan and edge

Irregular rectangular base in one piece, signature of an authentic funerary deposit. Slight chipping at the base edges testifying to antiquity.
